Wall collapse at the remodeled Ayodhya railway station? A fact check

The fact-checking unit of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) has debunked social media claims about the collapse of a border wall at the newly inaugurated Ayodhya Dham railway station. According to PIB, the collapsed wall was not part of the new station’s infrastructure, but rather belonged to the old station area. The PIB clarified that the collapse was due to excavation activities carried out by an individual and waterlogging in a nearby private area.

The widely circulated video of the incident sparked strong reactions from politicians and Internet users, expressing concern about the quality of public infrastructure. Opposition parties like the Samajwadi Party (SP) criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). SP leader IP Singh condemned the incident on social media and accused the BJP and its allies of negligence and corruption.

Last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the renovated Ayodhya railway station ahead of the consecration of the Ram temple. The three-story station building has amenities such as lifts, escalators, food courts, puja shops, cloakrooms and nursery rooms. The station is promoted as “accessible to all” and has received “IGBC certified green station building” status.

Also, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the newly built Ayodhya airport, naming it Maharishi Valmiki International Airport. The airport, developed in phases, will initially handle 10 lakh passengers a year, increasing to 60 lakh after the second phase. The project, which cost over Rs 1,450 crore for phase 1, includes a 6,500 square meter terminal designed with temple architecture resembling the upcoming Shri Ram Mandir. It features local art, paintings and murals depicting the life of Lord Ram, along with sustainability features such as insulated roofs, LED lighting, rainwater harvesting, landscaping, water treatment, wastewater treatment and solar energy systems to achieve a 5-star GRIHA rating.

The airport aims to improve regional connectivity, promoting tourism, business and employment opportunities in Ayodhya.
