Concert Association announces 2015-2016 season
The Hartsville-Coker Concert Association has announced its 2015-16 season of cultural performances. The new season includes five events that offer a variety of musical and artistic genres from around the world: Mongolian song and dance, solo piano, solo tenor, and Latin dance. On Friday, Sept. 18, the season opens at Coker College’s Watson Theater with a performance from the world-renowned Inner Mongolia National Song and Dance Troupe.
The ensemble will perform music, dances and songs from the country’s thousand year-old heritage and history. On Friday, Nov. 6, pianist Boris Berman will present a solo piano recital at Coker’s Watson Theater. Berman regularly appears with leading orchestras, on major recital series and in important festivals throughout the world. On Thursday, Jan. 28, opera singer Ron Brendel will perform a solo tenor recital, also at Coker’s Watson Theater.
Brendel’s specialization is the vocal music of Benjamin Britten. On Monday, Feb. 22, Don Grice will present an organ recital at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church. This recital is presented in collaboration with the St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church organ restoration campaign. Finally, the season will close on Tues., April 19 with a performance from Contra-Tiempo, a multi-lingual, Los Angeles-based dance company that fuses Salsa, Afro-Cuban and contemporary dance theater to create an invigorating blend of physically intense and politically astute performance work.
