Coker College’s master of science degree in college athletic administration is one of the best online master’s in sports management programs in the country according to BestColleges.com’s 2017 rankings.

Coker College first introduced its Master of Science degree in college athletic administration in May 2012 after earning accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). The degree offers students a solid foundation in specialized areas such as sport business management, current issues in college athletics, NCAA compliance regulations, sport communication, sport law, recruiting of coaches and athletes, fundraising and sport marketing.

Nationally, increases in the number of bachelor’s degrees in sports management have quadrupled the overall growth rate of baccalaureate degrees in recent years, and master’s degrees in sports management have outpaced all master's degrees by a margin of seven to one.

A bachelor’s degree is considered the minimum educational requirement for most careers in athletic administration. Students who earn a master’s in sports management stand to advance their careers more quickly than those with less academic accreditation.

“College athletics is extraordinarily complex and has become a high-profile aspect of most institutions of higher education,” said President Robert Wyatt, when announcing the school’s master of science degree in college athletic administration.  “Coker’s program is designed to equip tomorrow’s administrators with a rigorous academic foundation—a forward-thinking curriculum that balances theory with real-world experiences and creativity with bottom-line analytical thinking.”

Graduates who earn a sports management master’s degree pursue careers in areas such as college athletic departments, the front offices of athletic organizations and major sporting goods retailers. Some find careers with professional sports teams, such as Ricky Meinhold, a full-time scout for the St. Louis Cardinals, who earned his master’s of college athletic administration from Coker College in December 2013.
