Help sustain the Hartsville High food
Coker Enactus has implemented a food pantry on Hartsville High’s campus. Through our project, Kids Can, we work to improve the food security and nutrition of minors in the Hartsville/Darlington County area. Last year, our team started the partnership with Carolina’s Kids, a nonprofit organization providing the basic necessities that many children go without in the Darlington County School District. This fall, we have partnered with Hartsville High School to implement a food pantry in one of their classrooms. We aim to sustain a healthy and desirable flow of food for 75 students in need. These students (varying week by week) will notify an assistant principal of their weekly needs and wants.
Our objective is to sustainably supply the food pantry through a combined community effort. We have placed five collection bins in the community so far and are looking for more drop-off locations throughout the community. You can help by spreading the word of the cause, agreeing to have your business become a drop-off location for food items, or by donating food or giving monetary donations. We would also like this food pantry to eliminate your food waste as well as that of any community members. Remember, this food pantry needs to be sustained, so we would rather have any donation on a recurring basis over a one-time donation!
In addition, the Coker College Athletic Department is offering discounted admission in return for non-perishable food items to December 16th men’s and women’s basketball games against Mars Hill University. Come out and support the Cobras as well as Hartsville High’s food pantry!!
