Center Theater to present Seussical Jr.
The Hartsville Community Players will present “Seussical Jr.” on Saturday, April 1, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 2, at 3 p.m. at the Center Theater.
Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos.
Horton must protect the Whos and even though he faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant. The host and emcee of the evening is The Cat in the Hat who narrates the story and pops up from time to time as different characters. Featured characters included Ashlynn as The Cat, Zachary as Horton, JenAsia Frasier as Gertrude McFuzz, Issabella Lefew as Mayzie Le Bird, and Jake Kish as JoJo.
Dustin Moree is directing this production.
“Seussical is one of my favorite musicals,” commented Moree who played Horton the Elephant in college. “I actually believe that the Junior version of the show is an improvement on the original broadway musical. The Junior version is a more streamlined and tight version of the show. It has a great score, and a lot of the lyrics are word from word from Dr. Seuss’s books. So this show has great source material. I hope to see everyone there.”
Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, and $5 for students and can be purchased from the website www.hartsvillecommunityplayers.org.
